History of radical: This radical is called beast. In oracle bones it is a picture of a giant spinal beast. Characters with this radical relate to beasts. Pixiu (Chinese: 貔貅), is a Chinese mythical hybrid creature, commonly, but incorrectly referred to in the West by the Greek word “chimera”, and considered a powerful protector of practitioners of Feng Shui. It resembles a strong, winged lion.
