一 (yī) one

Chinese:  一

Pinyin: yī

English: One

Imagery: A representation of the universe.

History of character: One represents the smallest unit in Chinese. It also represented primordial chaos (Chinese: 混沌; Pinyin: Hùndùn), which is a nebulous state of the universe. Now it simply means the number one. The number one symbolises loneliness. The date November 11th (11/11) was chosen by Chinese young people to celebrate their pride in being single.
